Keep documentation in sync with code

EkLine Docs Agent keeps your documentation in sync with your code. It watches your repositories for changes, detects where the docs have fallen behind, and drafts the update as a pull request you review. This is automated documentation maintenance: instead of remembering to update the docs after every change, you let EkLine catch the drift and propose the fix.

Documentation falls behind code the moment a pull request merges without a matching docs update. A renamed configuration option, a new API endpoint, or a removed feature leaves the docs describing a product that no longer exists. The drift compounds quietly until users file support tickets or teammates waste time working out what the code actually does today.

Keeping docs current by hand depends on every author remembering, every time. Automated drift detection removes that dependency.

EkLine uses three mechanisms that work together. The first two run on their own once connected. The third is on demand, for when you want to drive an update yourself.

MechanismWhen it runsWhat it does
Automatic pull-request reviewWhen a pull request opensAnalyzes the diff for documentation impact and, on a high-confidence match, drafts the docs update and opens a documentation pull request. See Automatic PR review.
Scheduled drift auditOn a cadence you setReviews recent code activity, finds customer-facing changes that lack documentation, and fixes the highest-priority gap. See Prevent documentation drift.
On-demand updatesWhen you askUpdates the affected docs from a merged change or a referenced Jira or Linear ticket. See Update and review.

Together, the first two catch drift at the source when a PR opens and sweep for anything that slipped through on a schedule. You review every change as a pull request before it merges.

  • README files, from your repository structure and code.
  • API references, from function signatures, types, and comments.
  • How-to and getting-started guides, for your users and contributors.
  • Knowledge-base pages, such as Confluence spaces connected to EkLine.

EkLine learns from your existing documentation to match its style, terminology, and structure, so updates read as though your team wrote them.

EkLine connects to GitHub and GitLab to watch code changes and open documentation pull requests. It reads context from Jira and Linear tickets, and pulls supporting content from Slack, Notion, Confluence, and Google Docs. Every update arrives as a pull request on your documentation repository, so it goes through the same review and merge process as any other change.

Can EkLine automatically update documentation when code changes?

Section titled “Can EkLine automatically update documentation when code changes?”

Yes. When a pull request opens, EkLine Docs Agent analyzes the diff for documentation impact. On a high-confidence match it drafts the documentation update and opens a docs pull request for you to review. You can also point the agent at a merged change or a Jira or Linear ticket and it updates the affected docs.

How does EkLine detect documentation drift?

Section titled “How does EkLine detect documentation drift?”

EkLine detects documentation drift two ways. Automatic pull-request review assesses every non-draft PR against your existing docs when it opens. A scheduled drift audit reviews recent code activity on a cadence you set and fixes the highest-priority undocumented change, catching anything that merged before EkLine was connected or fell below the automatic threshold.
